Mumbai to Goa route
NH 66, the Mumbai–Goa highway, down the Konkan coast. A typical plan:
Panvel (start of NH 66): meet and fuel up
Mangaon and Mahad
Chiplun
Sangameshwar, Lanja and Rajapur
Kankavli, Kudal and Sawantwadi
Into North Goa near Pernem, then Vagator
Inland alternative: the old Mumbai–Pune highway to Pune, NH 48 to Kolhapur, then the Amboli ghat to Sawantwadi and Goa.
Route tips
NH 66 has had years of widening work: some stretches are new four-lane road, others still have diversions and rough patches. Check recent rider reports before you leave.
Two-wheelers are not allowed on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. If you take the inland route through Pune, Satara and Kolhapur, ride the old highway out of Mumbai.
Night rides need a slower pace, longer gaps and a briefed sweep. Fix regroup points at fuel stops, not on the shoulder.
Sub-groups: 5–7 riders each, with their own lead and sweep, and one overall ride captain.
Regroup points: agree them before the ride (fuel stops, after tolls, the foot of each ghat), never on the shoulder.
Ghats in daylight: time the descent into Goa so the last ghat is done before dark.
One person on money: log fuel, tolls and stays as you go, and settle up over UPI in Goa.
What to carry
Driving licence, bike RC, insurance and PUC, plus a government ID (and copies)
Full gear: full-face helmet, riding jacket, gloves, boots
Puncture kit and inflator, chain lube, basic tools (one set per sub-group is enough)
Phone mount and charger or power bank, some cash as well as UPI
Your Motoverse pass: check the official Royal Enfield Motoverse page for passes
