One-day bike rides from Bangalore
Bangalore to Nandi Hills
~60 km, about 1.5 h of riding. Route: NH44 (Bellary Road) past the airport, then the Nandi Hills road. The classic sunrise ride. Gates open around 6 AM and weekend queues for bikes form early, so leave the city by 4:30–5 AM. The climb has tight hairpins: single file, no overtaking.
Bangalore to Shivanasamudra Falls
~135 km, about 3 h of riding. Route: Kanakapura Road via Kanakapura and Malavalli. Best July–November when the Kaveri is full. Kanakapura Road has fast stretches and village crossings: the marshal should hold every junction after Kanakapura.
Weekend bike rides from Bangalore
Bangalore to Coorg (Madikeri)
~260 km, about 5.5–6 h of riding. Route: Mysuru Road service lanes, Srirangapatna, Hunsur, Kushalnagar. Two-wheelers are not allowed on the Bengaluru–Mysuru expressway main carriageway, so ride the service road or old highway. After Hunsur the road narrows through forest: keep the sweep in sight.
Bangalore to Chikmagalur
~245 km, about 5 h of riding. Route: NH75 via Nelamangala, Kunigal, Hassan and Belur. NH75 is a fast four-lane highway with heavy trucks: ride staggered, never side by side. Mullayanagiri and Baba Budangiri roads are narrow ghats, so switch to single file.
Bangalore to Sakleshpur
~220 km, about 4.5 h of riding. Route: NH75 via Nelamangala, Kunigal, Channarayapatna and Hassan. Great monsoon ride with tea estates and mist. Visibility drops fast in the ghat section: headlights on, hazards on if you stop, and regroup only at wide safe spots.
Bangalore to Ooty via Bandipur
~270 km, about 6–7 h of riding. Route: Mysuru, Gundlupet, Bandipur and Mudumalai forests, then the ghat to Ooty. The Bandipur and Mudumalai forest roads are closed to traffic at night (roughly 9 PM–6 AM), so time the crossing in daylight. Do not stop for wildlife. The Kalhatti ghat via Masinagudi has 36 steep hairpins; many crews take the longer Gudalur road.
