Pune to Goa route

NH 48 via Satara and Kolhapur, then a Western Ghats descent. A typical plan:

Pune: meet at dawn on the NH 48 side of the city
Khambatki ghat and Satara
Karad
Kolhapur (breakfast or overnight)
Amboli ghat down to Sawantwadi
Into North Goa near Pernem, then Vagator

Coastal alternative: drop to NH 66 through a ghat such as Varandha (Bhor to Mahad) and ride down the Konkan coast. Check the ghat is open first.

Route tips

NH 48 out of Pune is fast and busy with trucks: ride staggered, never side by side, and regroup after every toll.
The Amboli ghat is narrow with tight bends and can be misty. Ride it in daylight, single file.
Other ghats from the Kolhapur side, such as Phonda and Gaganbawda, drop to NH 66 in Sindhudurg; check which one is in good shape before you choose.

Riding as a convoy

Sub-groups: 5–7 riders each, with their own lead and sweep, and one overall ride captain.
Regroup points: agree them before the ride (fuel stops, after tolls, the foot of each ghat), never on the shoulder.
Ghats in daylight: time the descent into Goa so the last ghat is done before dark.
One person on money: log fuel, tolls and stays as you go, and settle up over UPI in Goa.

What to carry

Driving licence, bike RC, insurance and PUC, plus a government ID (and copies)
Full gear: full-face helmet, riding jacket, gloves, boots
Puncture kit and inflator, chain lube, basic tools (one set per sub-group is enough)
Phone mount and charger or power bank, some cash as well as UPI
